The Nissan E-NV200 Electric Van

We have recently been given the opportunity to try out the E-NV200 Nissan electric van in an attempt to make our deliveries more environmentally friendly. This has been a very successful trial and we hope to spread the word as this could benefit your company too! Read on to find out more.

The quality of the air we breathe as Londoners isn’t a new topic, with a population of around 8.6 million people the city’s pollution rates are pretty high. In order to improve air quality, the mayor has introduced the ‘ultra-low emissions vehicle delivery plan’ to reduce vehicle emissions in our city. It is hoped that by 2020 all the vehicles in London will comply to strict environmental standards. As part of this plan Hackney Council have begun fitting more charging points around the borough making the use of electrical vehicles more feasible.

Peter Clenshaw with the Electric Van At Janitorial Express we are very excited as the award winning Zero Emissions Network (ZEN) project (funded by Islington, Hackney and Tower Hamlets councils and the Mayor’s Cleaner Air Fund) has given the us the opportunity to test-out an E-NV200 Nissan electric van in an attempt to improve the way we make our deliveries. As these vehicles do not emit any tailpipe emissions their use will work towards improving air quality and reduce the amount of greenhouse gas being released into our atmosphere. Due to the high frequency of traffic in London our vans often have to repeatedly stop and start thus increasing their fuel consumption. Harmful fumes are still released by petrol and diesel cars even when they are stood in traffic, this issue is eradicated when using an electric vehicle. This is excellent news for us as with 80-100 deliveries to make each day we can make a huge difference to our carbon footprint. In addition to this we can expect to make significant savings as electrical vans are estimated to cost around 1 pence per mile in contrast to around 70 pence per mile for fuel run vehicles. This saving is further increased by the fact electric vehicles are exempt from the cities congestion charges!

The new van has been a welcome addition to our fleet and although a little smaller than our usual delivery vans this new eco-friendly vehicle has assisted in the completion of multiple deliveries throughout London. ONissan E-NV200ur drivers have commended the vehicle and were very happy with how quiet and smoothly it runs. It has been found to be excellent for making single deliveries and can run over 80miles on one charge. All in all, the E-NV200 trial has been very successful and has certainly fuelled our work towards making Janitorial Express a more environmentally conscious company. We definitely recommend looking into any similar schemes set up in your area as the benefits we have described could also assist your business.

Although we may have a way to go these are changes that will pave the way to a greener London and with such a great range of excellent quality electrical vehicles available this ideology is becoming a more realistic prospect. At Janitorial Express this is something we are all very happy to be a part of and hope to continue working towards making our city a healthier place to live.
