10 Money Saving Ideas for Cleaning Contractors

When the client tells you "We need to cut costs" where do you turn? In the current economic climate, finding ways of reducing costs must be at the forefront of every cleaning contractors mind. In an effort to assist, I have drawn up a list of some of the Top 10 ways that you can reduce your costs and improve productivity.

In an effort to assist, I have drawn up a list of some of the Top 10 ways that you can reduce your costs and improve productivity.

1/ Use Spray or Foam Soap

Foam hand soapFoam Soap is one way of getting better value; trials suggest that spray goes up to 3 times further than the liquid equivalent and costs about the same to produce. Not only can the usage be cut but there are some amazing savings to be had by choosing the right brand I am aware of a trail at well know airport where cost were reduced by a staggering 60%.

2/ Stop Using Stripper to Remove Floor Polish

The new SSP pad from 3M strips Floor Polish without chemicals. Surface Preparation Pads require only neutral cleaner or water to effectively remove floor finish, before preparing the floor for fresh polish application. The pads can be used on vinyl tile, marble, terrazzo, concrete and other floor types and will deep scrub Altro flooring. An Excellent to save on the cost of strippers.


Latex Gloves 3/ Replace Latex Gloves with Vinyl

Latex Gloves up to 60% More Expensive than Soft Vinyl. With the price of latex gloves going through the roof, many Cleaning Contractors are moving over to vinyl. The potential savings are huge and there is very little downside. 

4/ Use Energy Saving Vacuum Cleaners

NU Save Vacuum Cleaner

NuSave from Numatic has 2 power setting and even on the standard setting you are likely to benefit from a 30% saving in energy costs. On the Eco setting that will rise to 50%.

5/ Scotchgard Stone Floor Protector, Cut Maintenance Costs By Up To 85%

3M say that their new Scotchgard Stone Protector can cut your maintenance costs on stone floors to 1/6th of your present costs. Furthermore if you are currently buffing on a daily basis you should be able to reduce this to weekly. Apparently the product will never need stripping again, which has huge potential for additional savings.

6/ Use Diamond Pads for Marble Restoration instead of Vitrification

The recently launched Trizact Diamond HX Disc’s from 3M do away with the need for the chemical reaction and therefore the chemicals needed to achieve it. Trizact Red and Blue Pads used in sequence will restore most stone surfaces such as marble, terrazzo and concrete. The floor can then be further enhanced and protected using Scotchgard Stone Floor Protector.

7/ Use a Backpack Polish Applicator.

Flow KitContractors who are responsible for large areas of hard flooring should seriously consider purchasing a Backpack Polish Applicator in order to speed up the process of polish application. Using this system you can cover about 1000 sq ft in about 5 minutes and the product dries up to 3 times quicker than using conventional methods.

8/ Use Government Funded Training to Up Skill Your Staff

Government funding is available for training staff through the Level 2 Framework in Cleaning and Environmental Services, is an ideal way to up-skill your existing staff or to train new members. In many cases this certified training QCF is fully funded and can be delivered at no cost to you, the employer.

9/ Use Bucketless Mopping and Improve Productivity by up to 20%.

Pulse MopWith over 400 cleaners T5 have managed to increase productivity by between 15% and 20% using the Pulse Mop. Furthermore they have greatly reduced the amount of water used; this in turn means the floors dry quicker with less risk to the public.

10/ Find a Supplier That Provides Chemical Risk Assessments for Free.
